Welcome to EurOMA 2013 in Dublin The 20th EurOMA conference returns to Dublin from June 09-12 2013 after a break of 15 years. Much has changed in our world since then. As the economies in Europe and beyond face into recovery from the current financial crisis, growth and development requires new and innovative approaches to customer service, productivity and improvement. Here, there are many choices available to manufacturing and service firms and to their managers. Correspondingly, there are new and innovative ways in which operations management researchers can inquire into and intervene in these choices. So, our conference theme is Operations Management: At the heart of Recovery. Our main motivation is to reinforce the message that operations management has a central role to play in the recovery of our linked economies and society.

This site visit will give you a "behind the scenes" look at the ground operations of Aer Lingus (the national airline of Ireland) at Dublin Airport. The airline operates 43 aircraft and carries on average 10 million passengers per annum across 92 routes to Europe and USA. Aer Lingus also provides cargo transportation services to the UK, Continental Europe and the USA. Aer Lingus has positioned itself as a 'value carrier' on the basis that the pure low cost and low fares model is not sustainable while a full service model would not be viable in serving its key markets. The fundamental elements of this revised strategic approach included better matching of capacity to demand (involving reduction of long-haul capacity and reductions in capacity on over-served short-haul routes), a renewed focus on generating revenue per seat rather than simple maximisation of load factor as well as more emphasis on partnerships and connectivity (e.g. United, Jet Blue, Etihad) to deliver on its primary mission of connecting Ireland with the world.
Established in 1980, Nypro Ireland was the first installation of a Nypro facility in Europe. Located in Bray, Nypro Healthcare is the European Centre of Excellence for Nypro for the development of medical devices including delivery of proof of concept, initial prototyping, clinical trial support, validation leading to full manufacturing of medical devices for global markets. Nypro uses state of the art injection moulding processes and integrated complex automated assembly lines within cleanroom manufacturing environments. Their customers include the world’s leading pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. During this visit, you will hear how Nypro's operations have evolved to meet the needs of its customers and see examples of how it has effectively streamlined customers’ production operations, demonstrating the true worth of an integrated injection moulding and value-added solutions facility.
Siemens’s Healthcare Manufacturing facility, based in Swords, Co. Dublin, is a state of the art manufacturing facility producing and supporting complex medical diagnostics analysers for a worldwide market. On this site visit, you will see examples of 'best in class' lean manufacturing processes and hear about operations initiatives that have been undertaken.
